Professional Electrical Inspections in New Jersey

Whether you're buying a home, selling a property, or concerned about the safety of your current electrical system, Matney Electrical Contracting provides thorough electrical inspections that meet New Jersey code requirements.

Our licensed electricians examine every accessible component of your electrical system—from the service entrance and main panel to outlets, switches, and grounding systems. We identify code violations, safety hazards, outdated wiring, and potential failure points before they become expensive problems.

When You Need an Electrical Inspection

  • Home purchases: Pre-purchase inspections reveal hidden electrical issues before you close
  • Pre-listing inspections: Identify and resolve problems before buyers find them
  • Older homes: Systems over 25 years old should be evaluated for safety and capacity
  • Renovations: Verify existing conditions before planning additions or upgrades
  • Insurance requirements: Some carriers require inspections for older properties
  • Safety concerns: Flickering lights, warm outlets, or frequent breaker trips warrant immediate inspection

What We Inspect

Our comprehensive inspection covers the entire electrical system, including service capacity, panel condition, circuit protection, wiring methods, grounding and bonding, GFCI and AFCI protection, and outlet and switch function. We check for aluminum wiring, knob-and-tube systems, Federal Pacific panels, and other known hazards.

You receive a detailed written report documenting all findings, code violations, safety concerns, and recommended repairs—prioritized by urgency.

Code-Compliant and Thorough

New Jersey electrical code is specific and enforced. We know what inspectors look for because we work with them on permitted jobs every day. Our inspection reports are clear, accurate, and accepted by real estate professionals, insurance companies, and municipal inspectors throughout the state.

If we find issues, we can provide estimates and complete the necessary repairs. We're electricians first—inspection is part of how we keep New Jersey homes safe.

Common questions

How long does an electrical inspection take?+

Most residential inspections take 1 to 2 hours depending on the size of the home and complexity of the system. Larger homes or properties with multiple panels may take longer.

Is this the same as a municipal inspection?+

No. Municipal inspections verify that permitted work was done to code. Our inspections evaluate the overall condition and safety of your existing electrical system, which is especially important for older homes that were never required to be updated.

What if you find code violations?+

We document all violations and safety concerns in your report with recommended corrections. Not all violations require immediate action—we prioritize by safety risk. You decide what to address and when, though serious hazards should be corrected promptly.
